Curious about how running your own business works as a babysitter, cleaner, or tutor? Discover how much you can earn without reporting it to the tax authorities and when you need to register with the Chamber of Commerce.
If you earn money babysitting, cleaning, or tutoring, you are basically self-employed. You decide when you work, who you help, and how much you earn. But running your own business also means keeping your administration in order and managing your tax matters.
If you earn less than €20,000 per year, you usually don’t have to pay VAT or file VAT returns thanks to the Small Business Scheme (Kleineondernemersregeling, KOR). However, you must always report your income on your annual tax return as ‘income from other activities.’ If you earn more, you need to register with the Chamber of Commerce and file VAT returns.
